FAQ's

What is/are "powder brows"?

"Powder Brows" are a form of semi-permanent brow makeup that are achieved utilizing a tattoo machine.  Quick and shallow movements create a dusty, borderless build-up of pigment after multiple passes.  Brows can be as soft and subtle or as bold and saturated as the client would prefer using this form of PMU.  Almost everyone is a candidate for this technique.

What is/are "combo brows"?

"Combo Brows" are a combination of powdering with soft (nano) hairstrokes incorporated to add dimension to your brow.  Combo Brows are a wonderful option for those clients who are looking to achieve a fluffy yet filled in brow.

iS COSMETIC TATTOO right for me?

Before booking, all potential clients are expected to read through all of the informational links available, in their entirety, to ensure they're a good candidate for their desired procedure. (All clients are required to sign paperwork acknowledging that they read and understood all available information and that they agree to all terms sey by HighBrow Studios.)  At the beginning of your appointment, you and your artist will discuss your goals.  Based on your skin type & color, and lifestyle choices, your artist will help steer you in the right direction in order to achieve the best set of brows for you!

How long is the appointment?

We always ask our clients to plan for a 2.5 hour appointment window.  Upon arrival to the studio, you will have "before" pictures taken.  A quick consultation will take place between you and your artist to discuss your aesthetic goals & lifestyle, and to allow your artist to assess your skin.  Your face will be measured and mapped by your artist to create the best brow for your face before the tattooing begins.  The procedure itself does not take up the whole 2.5 hours but many variables need to be considered. Your artist needs enough time to create the best set of brows for you.  Once finished, "after" pics will be taken.  Lastly, you and your artist will discuss what to expect during the 4-6 weeks of healing time and how to care for your fresh set of brows.

how long is the healing process?

Healing time varies from client to client.  Several factors such as age, health, lifestyle, etc. need to be considered.   It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over on the outer surface of the skin.  During this time it is recommended to keep the brows clean and dry. The skin will continue to heal from under the surface, and pigment will continue to resurface through the healed layers even after your skin appears to be "healed". The final result will be visible in roughly 3-6 weeks depending on individual variables.

is the 6-8 week touch-up required?

Required? Not necessarily...to be expected? YES.  Small areas where ink "skipped" or disappeared can be retouched, color can be adjusted, brow thickness & size can be added, and in some cases, a whole new game plan can be created if the initial results were not optimal.  PMU is an artform, not a science.  Trust and patience in the process goes a long way.  Individuals with oilier skin types often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, a touch up session is an opportunity to build the brow once you feel more comfortable with the process and your healed brows. Your follow up session can be scheduled for no sooner than 6 weeks after your initial appointment.

Does brow tattooing hurt?

MOST clients describe the pain level as mild to none. After the first pass is made, your artist will apply a secondary numbing agent multiple times throughout the procedure. Everyone responds differently to anesthetic as well as to pain; depending on the client, the feeling of the procedure has been described as a light scratch.  NOTE: topical anesthetics used during the procedure may contain lidocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.  After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal and should calm down within the next 24-48 hours.  Don’t let your fear of mild "pain" be the reason you choose not to move forward!

how long do the results last?

Considering the endless variables of human skin types and lifestyle choices, permanent cosmetics of the brow area are considered semi-permanent. Shading can typically lasts 1-5 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), and age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine also plays a major role in the long-terms results and effect of the pigment.  Patients who tan, use products with AHA, Glycolic Acid, Retinol etc., will fade faster.  Individual color retention within the skin varies from client to client. To maintain a fresh and defined look, a touch up is suggested (but NOT required) every 12-24 months. You may find over the years that touch-ups is required less frequently due to the build-up of pigment over the years.  If you feel that permanent cosmetics is no longer for you, you can stop getting touchups and allow the remaining pigment to fade out over time.  Most of the pigment will break down naturally and be digested by the body.

NOTE: In some cases, some faint color will remain permanently.

HOW OFTEN CAN I GET TOUCHUPS?

NOT as often as you'd like!  Despite cosmetic tattooing of the brows being relatively gentle, it is still a form of tattooing that does break skin and does cause mild scar tissue accumulation.  As your artist, I prioritize your skin's integrity and always consider the long-term affects of your cosmetic tattoo procedures.  Powder Brows are a "LOW-MAINTENANCE" service, NOT a "NO-MAINTENANCE" service.  If you are someone who wants/demands absolute perfection, the artists at HighBrow Studios may not be the best fit for you.  The human face is far from perfect and total symmetry is nearly impossible to achieve.  Also, skin is a live organ with zero predictability.  Perfect shade consistency throughout with no imperfections is a tall order.  As your artist, I will strive for overall balance and improvement of your brows but will never guarantee perfection.  If you historically took 15 minutes to draw your eyebrows on daily and now only have to dab 2 tiny spots (so-to-speak) with a little makeup, I've done my job!

Annual / post-annual "color-boost" appointments will only be done if you have faded by 50% overall and/or have substantial imperfections that are affecting the overall look of the brow.  If you schedule your annual appointment without prior approval and do not require one, you will forfeit your deposit. - NO EXCEPTIONS!

are the results guaranteed?

NO. Unfortunately, results can NOT be guaranteed.  every client is unique and factors such as lifestyle choices and skin tone/texture will affect each client differently.  Together we can develop a plan to ensure the best possible results, but NOTHING IS GUARANTEED.
